The Crafty+ is Storz & Bickel's shortest portable vaporizer: it's 11 cm long, weighs about 135 grams, and fits in the palm of your hand, but uses the same hybrid heating technology as the larger Mighty+. It's designed for those looking for a pocket-sized dry herb vaporizer that's easy to use with just one button and adjustable heat via the official web app. Its strength is the size-to-vapor quality ratio; its main limitation is the single battery, which makes it better suited for short sessions than for intensive use away from an outlet.

Less suitable if you do many sessions a day away from a socket, if you want to use it while it is charging (this is not possible) or if you prefer to see the temperature on a display: in these cases look at the Mighty+ or the Venty.
The Crafty is no longer available, this glorious vaporizer is going out of production.
Design and materials
The body is compact, with a single button and an LED indicating heating and charging. The cooling unit with the mouthpiece, made of medical-grade PEEK, a heat-resistant engineering polymer chosen by Storz & Bickel for the vapor path, screws onto the top. The filling chamber is ceramic-coated.
The current version is the one with a USB-C: many retailers call it the “Crafty+ C” to distinguish it from the first series with micro-USB, but the official name remains CRAFTY+. The device is manufactured by Storz & Bickel in Germany and complies with the IEC 60335-1 safety standard. It has no glass parts and the cooling unit can be removed by hand.
Heating and temperatures
The Craftysystem convection and conduction: hot air passes through the material while the chamber also heats it through contact. The result is uniform extraction and cool vapor delivered by the cooling unit. The airflow is 10 liters per minute, with a smooth draw.
Without a smartphone, the device works on three levels:
- 180°C: base temperature, set when switched on;
- 195°C: Booster, with a double click on the button;
- 210°C: Superbooster, with a triple click from the base or a double click from the Booster.
With the S&B Web App (app.storz-bickel.comstorz-bickelvia Bluetooth), you can select any temperature between 40 and 210°C (104 and 410°F) and change the base. The Booster and Superbooster cartridgescartonly be changed together, via the app. Storz & Bickel recommends a heating time of about 60 seconds to reach 180°C (356°F): a vibration indicates that the temperature has been reached. This time may vary slightly depending on the battery level, environment, and usage.
Recommended strategy: Start at 180°C (350°F) for the first few hits, when the aromas and terpenes are most intense. When the vapor thins out, switch to the Booster (195°C) and finish with the Superbooster (210°C) to extract the remainder: at the end of the session, the material will have a uniform brown color.
Why temperature matters: the example of THC. Many online tables state that THC "boils at 157°C." This value is measured in a laboratory under high vacuum (0.05 torr, a pressure approximately 15,000 times lower than atmospheric pressure). At normal pressure, its estimated boiling point exceeds 400°C (Eyal et al., Cannabis and Cannabinoid Research, 2023). In a vaporizer, THC therefore does not boil: it evaporates gradually, and the rate at which it does so increases with temperature (its vapor pressure increases approximately 6-fold from 155 to 190°C). This is why, by raising the temperature with Boosters and Superboosters, the vapor becomes denser.
Terpenes, the molecules responsible for aroma, are much more volatile: at 180°C, they evaporate about 3,500 times faster than THC. This is why the first hits are the most flavorful, while cannabinoid extraction increases as temperatures rise towards 195-210°C. Heat also serves another purpose: in the plant, THC is primarily present in an acidic form (THCA), which is inactive and converts into THC only when heated. In electric vaporizers tested at 210°C, this transformation was almost complete, over 94% (Lanz et al., PLoS One, 2016).

Camera and loading
The chamber has an official volume of 1.4 cm³: the amount of material it holds in grams depends on the grind and humidity. It works best with a medium grind: too fine a grind will pass through the grates and clog them, too coarse a grind will leave air passages and the extraction will become uneven. Fill the chamber to the brim without tamping; if the vapor decreases halfway through the session, stirring the material with the device turned off will restart the extraction.
For smaller doses or when taking it on the go, there's a dosing capsule (one included, others available as accessories): you fill it first, insert it into the chamber, and remove it at the end of the session without making a mess. Storz & Bickel specifies the capsules as compatible with all its devices: they are the same as those used on Mighty+, Venty and Veazy. The package also includes replacement grids, both normal and coarse.
Battery and charging
The lithium-ion battery is built-in and not user-replaceable; at the end of its life, it can be replaced by service. Storz & Bickel does not officially state battery life; battery life depends on the temperatures used and how long it's left on. You can view the charge level and total usage hours from the web app.
Charging takes place via the USB-C (5 V, maximum 10 W). Storz & Bickel does not specify a full charge time. Be aware of one point that many online descriptions incorrectly state: according to Storz & Bickel's official support, the Crafty+ cannot be used while connected to the cableis the solution Mighty.
The device turns off automatically 2 minutes after the last button press; you can set the timer from 1 to 5 minutes using the web app. During the session, a short press on the button resets the timer.
How to use: step by step
- Grinds the material medium and evenly.
- Unscrew the cooling unit by turning it counterclockwise and fill the chamber to the brim, without pressing (or insert a ready-made measuring capsule).
- Reassemble the cooling unit and hold down the button to turn it on: the Crafty+ starts at 180°C.
- Wait for the vibration (about 60 seconds) to indicate that the temperature has been reached.
- Inhale slowly and steadily for a few seconds, about halfway to your lung capacity.
- When the steam drops, double click for the Booster (195°C) and then another double click for the Superbooster (210°C).
- At the end of the session, turn off the device, let it cool for a few minutes and empty the chamber.
- Brush the grates before putting them away.
Cleaning and maintenance
After each use, simply brush the grill and the cooling unit grill. Periodically, and if the device is shared, remove the cooling unit and let it soak:
- in hot water with a little detergent for at least 5 minutes, or
- in isopropyl alcohol for no more than 30 minutes.
Then rinse under running water for at least a minute and let it dry completely before reassembling. The body of the device can only be cleaned with a dry or slightly damp cloth, never immersed. Check the seals occasionally: if they are cracked, hardened, or deformed, they should be replaced, otherwise the draft will lose its seal. Grids, seals, and capsules are spare parts subject to wear.

Crafty+ vs Mighty+
The two share the same technology: hybrid heating, 40-210°C, a 1.4 cm³ chamber, and 10 liters per minute airflow. The vapor quality is very similar. The differences are in size and convenience: the Mighty+ weighs 242 g, has a display and buttons to adjust the temperature to the degree on the device, has two batteries instead of one, charges to 80% in about 40 minutes with a Supercharge charger, and can be used plugged in with a compatible power adapter. Choose the Crafty+ if pocketability is your priority; the Mighty+ if you do multiple sessions a day or use it mostly at home.
Crafty+ vs Veazy
The Veazy is Storz & Bickel's latest compact portable device and weighs almost the same (134 g), but has a longer shape. It has the same 1.4 cm³ chamber and the same three-level logic with a web app. Compared to the Crafty+, it heats up faster (about 40 seconds versus about a minute, according to the manufacturer) and has an LED temperature indicator. Neither can be used while charging. It's the closest alternative.
Crafty+ vs Venty
The Venty weighs 252g, has a display, heats up in about 20 seconds, has adjustable airflow up to 20 liters per minute, and uses two batteries instead of one. It makes sense if you want quick heat-up and an adjustable draw; the Crafty+ remains preferable for discretion.
The wall charger is not included: a standard USB power supply will do.
Warranty and assistance
The Crafty+ has a 2-year warranty. Storz & Bickel offers an additional year to those who register the product online, but their warranty conditions specifically exclude the Crafty+ (along with the Veazy and Plenty). This is the second Crafty+ I've purchased, and I already have several spare parts, so I thought having two would ensure I never run out of juice. Of the various vaporizers I've tried, this is the most portable and efficient, although its only drawback is the low battery life, lasting about 3 or 4 sessions at most. Regardless, it's currently the best portable vaporizer in my opinion.
